    Pasadena Photowalk

The Tournament of Roses parade is right around the corner, January 1 to be exact, and thousands of people will invade Pasadena, California to check it out, along with the Rose Bowl game. So of course you’re wondering about what it’s like to visit Pasadena, where to go, what to see, where to get your best shots, right? Good news: Your Photowalks guy to the rescue! I recently spent two days in the L.A. suburb (10 miles from DTLA) with my pal Dave Basulto from @iographer, doing

    BTS Photowalk Video moments

Some of my favorite moments from the Photowalk video series. From the Catalina Island Photowalk: Jefferson Graham photographs in front of the Catalina Island Yacht Club, a historic building that’s open to members only. What’s in his pocket? A map of the island. Kobe Japan Photowalk

Place: Kobe, part of the Kansai region, best known for its Kobe Beef and a fabulous waterfront. Kobe has a lot of advantages over mega Japan cities like Tokyo and Osaka in that it is just more normal. Kobe beef is said to be better tasting, because the cows are treated nicely, even massaged, we’re told. Where: On the other side of the country from Tokyo, a 30-minute train ride from Osaka, Japan's second largest city, or about 45 minutes from the picturesque town of Kyoto. Pos

    San Pedro California Photowalk

Our latest #Photowalk travel photography adventure: the Los Angeles industrial port town of San Pedro, a fascinating section of the city that reveres its history, has a funky downtown (must see: post office that dates back to FDR) and some of the most photogenic spots I’ve come across since I started this Photowalk journey. Photo highlights include the Vincent Thomas Bridge, Korean Bell, two lighthouses, Angel’s Gate and Point Fermin and a dynamic coastline that merges into t

    Marina del Rey Photowalk

When you think Los Angeles by the sea, Santa Monica and Venice Beach usually come to mind as the iconic shots. (Of course, I’m partial to Manhattan Beach and the South Bay, but that’s another story.) One often overlooked little gem of an L.A. community that’s worthy of a closeup is the Marina del Rey area. It’s part of the burgeoning “Silicon Beach,” area that’s attracted mucho tech investment and rediscovery, again, mostly in Venice and Santa Monica, as well as the neighbori

Three spots for a great photo of the Catalina Avalon Harbor

When photographing Avalon for the recent Catalina Photowalk, I found that there were 3 great places to nab a killer shot of the harbor. First was shortly before docking, from the deck of the Catalina Express, as we sailed into town, as seen above. (Hint: don’t be in a rush to jump off the boat when you arrive. There are great shots to be had!) The first shot is easy and doesn’t require much exertion. Shot no. 2, from the deck of the Catalina Island Co.’s Inn on Mt. Ada bed an

    Catalina Island Photowalk

I’ve always been a huge of Catalina Island, the 26-mile-from-Los Angeles Riviera that’s great for long walks, back-country exploring and of course, photowalking. And I’m thrilled for the people who live there that Apple decided to put the island on the map this year, as the face of macOS Catalina, the new name for the yearly operating system upgrade Apple releases for computers. Catalina joins Yosemite, El Capitan and other California classics with this honor. This means that

    Oahu Hawaii Photowalk

The island of Oahu, as many visitors know, is the most visited of the Hawaiian islands, and home to 75% of the state’s population. Of the 1.4 million residents of the state, 1 million of them live in Honolulu County. You all know Honolulu, even if you haven’t been there. Big city, high rises, Waikiki Beach, Diamond Head. You may have heard of the North Shore, home to mammoth winter waves, or the small towns of Kailua and Haleiwa. How about joining me on a #Photowalk tour to t

    L.A. Deli Photowalk

I have a great project for you: Why not make this a Los Angeles deli weekend? In the latest #Photowalk video, no. 43, as chronicled above (please watch!) we tour 10 L.A. delis in 2 days, capturing the sights and feel of these iconic local landmarks, with the hope that after watching, you’ll both want to pick up your camera and go out and support your local deli. How does a nice Hot Pastrami, Corned Beef or Matzoh Ball soup sound? Or perhaps a knish, blintz or egg cream? Sitti

    VidCon 2019 Crazy

It’s not exactly Comic-Con, but it’s close. Young, rabid fans of YouTubers, most of you have never heard of, descend upon Anaheim for four days after school gets out, lust after their favorites, listen to music and party hard. For those who don’t know who Jessica Bravura, Rhett & Link or Joey Graceffa are, or don’t care, there are also informational sessions about how to get ahead on YouTube, or just to get the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and Yo

Photowalk – Shopping Mall & dummies

I thought it would be a fun experiment to take an iPhone XS Max, and run around a modern, thriving shopping mall (yes, we still have those in Los Angeles) for a #Photowalk slice of life. Pull out a camera and you get kicked out by a security guard, but with a smartphone, the mall is your subject, with no restrictions. (I actually finally tried at the end to shoot one video clip on my camera, and did get booted shortly after I turned off the record button.) The goal of this Ph

Place. The capital city of Portugal, where the language spoken is either Portuguese, like in Brazil, or the color of money, English. Where. Directly next to Spain, on the Atlantic Ocean coast, the western most European country. Located on the west coast, Lisbon is the San Francisco of Europe, with cable cars and a bridge that resembles the Golden Gate. Then add the unique foods and guitars, Portuguese language, Fado shows and a massive love of tiles all over the city, and you

    Sevilla, Spain Photowalk Companion

Sevilla is the Disneyland of Spain, a fantasyland of matadors, flamenco dancers and otherwise outgoing people who enjoy singing and dancing in the streets and reveling in all that is the best of Spain. At least that’s how it seemed to us on our recent #Photowalk visit to the city in the South, the capital of Andalusia. It is the land of Carmen, Don Juan and that notorious barber, the inspiration for over 100 operas and birthplace of flamenco. (Clap your hands everyone!) Take

“Just before the rain in Manhattan Beach” 5/15/2019

I call this series, “Just before the rain,” and shot them Wednesday night, around 6 p.m., when the clouds began gathering in Manhattan Beach. Anytime at the beach is magical, but pre-rain I think is the best of all. At least, as long as you’re not on a bike or roller blades and the wind is against you. #manhattanbeachphotowalk #rain #clouds #photowalk #manhattanbeach #jeffersongraham

The guitar like instruments of Portugal

Every region of the world has its own unique music, whether that be Spain and Flamenco, the accordion of Italy or the waltz of Vienna. In Portugal, that music is called Fado, a form of folk music with expressive singing, usually accompanied by a pear shaped, mandolin styled instrument called the “Portuguese Guitar,” or Fado Guitar. Any visitor to Portugal will be encouraged to visit a local restaurant with a Fado show. Lisbon and Porto, we did just that, but what really fasci

    Madrid Photowalk Guide

Barcelona is the most visited tourist spot in Spain, thanks in part to its proximity to France and Italy, its popularity with tour ships sailing the Mediterranean, and its lively art and culinary scene. But Madrid, the beautiful and historic capital of Spain, hoe to over 3 million people, should absolutely not be missed. Offering some of the same tempting food and a fabulous 350-acre park, plus three not-t0-be-missed museums, including the venerable Prado, the city itself, li

    Daily Photo: Los Angeles Skyline

Good morning 4/12/19 from Los Angeles! This is my all-time favorite spot to capture the entire city, from Redondo Beach, Torrance and the entire South Bay, to Santa Monica, Malibu and downtown Los Angeles glistening. Who knows where I am? OK, I”ll give you a hint. I’m in Palos Verdes Estates. Are you getting warmer? Shot in HDR on Sony A7III, 24-70mm lens. Shameless plug: If you never caught our #Photowalk video from Palos Verdes, please check it out. #losangeles #hdr #torran

A visual guide for your Santa Barbara #Photowalk, step by step, from the old Santa Barbara Mission down to the Waterfront. START HERE: 2201 Laguna Street The Mission, take note,  has strict photography rules, so don’t plan on shooting wedding or engagement portraits here and leave your tripod and drone at home. Or else they will stop you and ask you to pay a hefty filming fee. The Mission, circa 1786, is a building you can capture from the outside, during the day, with bright
